Evaporation is a critical process step in sugar manufacturing as it creates conditions where crystallization can occur in the next processing phase. Water is evaporated from thin syrup containing about 10-15 Brix dissolved solids to thick syrup of about 50-70 Brix. Evaporation usually takes place in a multiple-effect evaporator heated with steam. Evaporators use a lot of heat and if not controlled, this will accumulate a lot of costs that affect the overall economy of the mill.
The main objective of this project was to develop and implement a user friendly but advanced control program that is easy to monitor, control, maintain and implementing changes or correcting errors. There was also need to develop a program that would work in an energy saving way. Dpstar successfully design & built evaporator control system using Omron PLC & Beijer Touch Screen. The PLC will control all the operations of the system. Whether its temperature monitoring or stepper motor control, tank emptying or conveyor control, each and every component is subservient to the PLC. Project Include also supply, install & commissioning of Instruments including Smart Differential Pressure Transmitter, Pressure Transmitter, Brix Meter & Level Switches.
Control of evaporation is crucial for the sugar factories. The main objectives for an evaporator control system are control of Brix and a smooth operation. An optimally concentrated syrup improves the operation downstream and ensures a high product quality. Good evaporation control also allows the evaporators to smooth out process fluctuations and to adjust automatically and immediately to the changes in the syrup flowrate.
